When I had my business I had a keystroke logger on our PC’s. I installed it? as a result of constantly having staff waste the day playing games, chatting on MSN and browsing the internet. Needless to say I was not in the least happy to be paying staff to play. I could not afford to lose MSN or the internet as my business what 50% web based.
I have to admit I was afraid that I would find that I was breaking some privacy laws. So I ensured that my staff knew that I had CCTV and other means of observing them. I even made them sign a disclosure. I also told them they were not to use the pc’s for personal use and that I was logging what was happening on the PC. I do not think they believed me as I found they still kept playing games, seeing porn etc. I flipped. They finally realised that I was serious when I issued warning letters. But without CCTV and the keylogger I may have been blind to what they were doing.
Another benefit I found to the keylogger was if staff accidentally deleted something they were working on (like in word), I could easily get back the text that they would have written. I must say I do miss having a keylogger, (even just? because I am a nosey person)!
