Freedom of Speech

Posted by grumbler on June 29th, 2008 — Posted in Government Issues, Lamentations, Political Correctness, Politics, Racism, Religion, Strange But True, The World Today

I thought that freedom of speech was a basic human right but apparently there are exceptions to every rule.

Rules have been passed against people saying what they think on T-shirts as it may cause annoyance or inconvenience to some people!

They will soon tell me that I am not allowed my Carper Diem on my blog as it might annoy or be inconvenient to some people.

£90M Bill

Posted by grumbler on June 23rd, 2008 — Posted in Lamentations, Strange But True, The World Today

I know the cost of living keeps creeping up and up… but this is ridiculous!! A woman received a £90 million bill for her pre pay electricity.

Seriously speaking we would all notice an error of £90 million but let us say there is an error of £20, would you actually notice it? No. I didn’t think so. Makes you wonder how many “mistakes” actually go by unnoticed. £20 on everyone’s bill would soon tot up to £90 million… and yet will it make the news? Will anyone notice? We are talking only £20 on our bill!

Kidnap!

When you think Kidnap…. you think Ransom.

Not in this case.

A man kidnapped his ex to do his ironing!! Figure that!!

The Law

Did you know that in New York, it is illegal to urinate on a bird of any kind. Can you just imagine Americans trying to aim and fire (and hit) a bird!!

You can!! Oh!!

No wonder they passed that law!

Postcodes

Posted by grumbler on August 6th, 2007 — Posted in Government Issues, Politics, Strange But True

Malta relatively recently (around 10 years ago) introduced Postcodes. They gave each postcode 3 letters and 2 numbers eg ABC12. The first 3 letters signified the town eg SGN = San Gwann and STJ = St Julian’s. There were a few semi odd ones too like ZBR for Marsascala (It is near Zabbar!). The numbers should have been a grid of sorts.

However this did not seem to work for them. They have changed the postcode system already. They now consist of 3 letters and 4 numbers eg ABC1234! The letters have mostly remained the same but some have changed eg Marsascala has become MSK.

When you consider how tiny Malta is you wonder why they need such a large system to get the postcode sorted. Even the USA (who incidentally have a city called Malta) have only a 5 digit postcoode eg Beverley Hills is 90210. The UK postcode is split into two letters upto 3 numbers and 2 letters - AB12 3CD. The first 2 letters splits the country eg TW = Thames West and the rest is a grid system.

So, Malta needs a more complex system than the US and the Uk combined despite it being smaller than some cities in the UK and US!

Celebs

Posted by grumbler on July 20th, 2007 — Posted in PPP, Strange But True, The World Today

As you know I am not a person in awe of celebrities. I find that the majority of celebrities do not generally deserve a second look let alone all the celebrity status they? receive. People like Paris Hilton have done absolutely nothing to deserve my admiration, and? my gripes towards her have nothing to do with a jail sentence. If you think of Nelson Mandela, he was jailed, yet you will not find his picture among any? celebrity pictures! He deserves to be celebrated. Yet places celebrate people like Paris Hilton, Madonna, Jade, Nicole Riccie, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Schwartenegger and? 50 Cent (not even gramatically correct!).

Love & Romance

Posted by grumbler on May 22nd, 2007 — Posted in Strange But True

I still believe in Love and Romance! And I have been married almost 8 years.

Considering how much I grumble and groan, you would not think that I would believe in love and romance?

L’amour!

Fine for quavers

Posted by grumbler on May 21st, 2007 — Posted in Political Correctness, Strange But True, The World Today

A? fine of £80 was given because of some quavers which fell for a toddler. Now quavers are biodegradable and would quite quickly be picked up by birds as food. Yet people who smoke and drop their ash and throw their butts on the floor do not seem to get fined.

Sad world we live in!

Waste of Time and Money?

I just read about the perfect Bacon Sandwich. I thought it would be how to cook. But no, apparently money and time was wasted on RESEARCHING the perfect bacon sandwich! Perhaps the money could have been better used to research medicine!
